Here's a great explanation of what OpenID is and how to use it.

Coraline and the Children's Choir of Nice

I got fascinated by the lyrics of the songs from the Coraline soundtrack. Henry Selick says it's all "sung nonsense", something Bruno Coulais "likes to do". However, I typed some of what I heard into Google Translate and got some interesting results when playing with the words a bit to spell them in a latinish way. For example... "me li taci lingue" (which I swear I hear several times in this song) comes out as Italian for "I will be silent language". Weird how things turn out.

Waste Equals Food - The Cradle to Cradle Protocol.

So many good documentaries are also depressing, but this one is packed full of Hope. It's my new favorite documentary. Enjoy!

An inspiring documentary on the Cradle to Cradle design concept of the chemist Michael Braungart and the architect William McDonough. Winner of the Silver Dragon at the Beijing International Science Film Festival 2006. OUTLINE: Man is the only creature that produces landfills. Natural resources are being depleted on a rapid scale while production and consumption are rising in na tions like China and India. The waste production world wide is enormous and if we do not do anything we will soon have turned all our resources into one big messy landfill. But there is hope. The German chemist, Michael Braungart, and the American designer-architect William McDonough are fundamentally changing the way we produce and build. If waste would become food for the biosphere or the technosphere (all the technical products we make), produc tion and consumption could become beneficial for the planet. A design and production concept that they call Cradle to Cradle. A concept that is seen as the next industrial revolution. • Design every product in such a way that at the end of its lifecycle the component materials become a new resource. • Design buildings in such a way that they produce energy and become a friend to the environment. Large companies like Ford and Nike are working with McDonough and Braun gart to change their production facilities and their products. They realize that economically seen waste is destruction of capital. You make something with no value. Based on their ideas the Chinese government is working towards a circular economy where Waste = Food. An amazing story that will definitely change your way of thinking about production and consumption. Interesting...

Love love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Night night of matter
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Art, Music, and Distant Mirrors

I really admire this DistantMirrors person - what a talent for mixing art with music.

Anne Anderson (1874—1930) was a prolific Scottish illustrator, primarily known for her art nouveau children's book illustrations, although she also painted, etched and designed greeting cards. Her style of painting was influenced by her contemporaries, Charles Robinson, Mabel Lucie Attwell and Jessie Marion King and was similar to that of her husband, Alan Wright.

Theodor Severin Kittelsen (April 27, 1857 January 21, 1914) was a Norwegian artist. He is one of the most popular artists in Norway. Kittelsen became famous for his nature paintings, as well as for his illustrations of fairy tales and legends, especially of trolls.

Woman/Seal/Song Thing (Plus nice Documenatry) - Good Stuff

I don't know what this "Amazing Nature Videos" person's problem is. I hate that this is always "outlawed". Sigh.

This has some documentary-like footage first, followed by the song/cuddle thing. I don't think the two are related.

Here's just the original "How to Cuddle" bit. Very nice, and to hell with the critics.

Eckhart Tolle - Being Present in Relationships

This Guy's Pretty OK

I've read a few of his books - they always seemed a lot like "cheerleading" to me, but that's probably only because what he's teaching is so simple... it just has to be beaten into us (past our ego). I don't know.

Anyway, I liked this video. At least, there are a few good laughs in it.

Stirling Engines and Solar Power

Here's a little Sterling Solar Engine

Here's the Corporate/Government Version

Consider the part at 1:45 that starts "Edison has agreed to buy...". Obviously the end customer is now buying from a retailer, rather than a wholesaler.

It's nice that they can use solar to generate grid power, but relying on corporations to provide our basic needs is a form of slavery. I hope one day we can all become independent, and support independence. I hope someday we'll take our government back and encouraging businesses that help each person gain the ability to generate his own power with his own equipment.

Sicko - A Few Good Clips

I don't recommend the movie, but here are three of the five scenes from Sicko that I would recommend. (I've also thrown in a couple of extras with Tony Benn and a funny clip featuring Ronald Ray-Gun.)

1) How it all Began

2) Tony Benn - This Guy's Brilliant

3) This lady wasn't too happy with her job. (Plus a recap of the Nixon thing at the end, sorry...)

More Tony Benn

I'll wrap it up with a laugh (to keep from crying)...

JK Rowling: The Importance of Imagination

Here's a truly meaningful speech. It's what I would already have said to you if only I were as smart as JK Rowling. It was originally titled "The Fringe Benefits of Failure", but I've renamed it for what I consider the more important part of the speech.

Thanks, Shaaria!

Supporting Our Troops

I've heard a lot of talk over the years about "Supporting Our Troops". Sometimes I wonder if the people yelling about it have any idea what it really means. I may not be the best person to editorialize about supporting troops, but I feel that support involves more than yellow ribbons around oak trees.

I hope you'll watch the following videos. They've created a picture in my mind of how our troops are treated, by whom, and why.

I hope that if you're an American citizen you'll enter your zip code in the form at the bottom of this story to contact your representatives and tell them how you feel about this subject.

Why are we There? To Fight Terrorism and Confiscate WMDs, Right?

"Once that oil starts flowing, and money coming - it's gonna be lots of money - it's the second largest reserve of oil in the world - it's no question about how much money's there."

"I think the profits that the American companies are making, I mean the major, the main companies, are so overwhelming..."

OK, So it's Expensive... but We're Taking Care of our Troops, Right?

"Contaminated water was provided to the troops."
~Senator Byron Dorgan

"The tents were completely moldy and everybody was getting sick." ~K.D., National Guard

"Troops complain about breathing problems, some coughing up a black substance... Iraqi Crud, as the troops call it."

"Every day, twice a day."

"KBR showed an utter disregard for the safety of the troops." ~Elizabeth Burke, Attorney

"Guess who blocks the investigations? Don Rumsfeld, hired by Dick Cheney, former CEO of Halliburton."

Surely They're Working to Improve their Treatment of Others, Right?

"Shortly after she was raped, Halliburton/KBR security locked her in a shipping cell for nearly 24 hours without food and water, guarded by two men with machine guns."

"When they protested, the guards fired above to silence them."

Well, At Least the Soldiers Have a Decent Job, Right?

How Important are Seeds, Really?

I suspect that all through history people have been shocked after powerful forces had destroyed their freedom. There are so many signs for us to ignore.
