Supporting Our Troops

I've heard a lot of talk over the years about "Supporting Our Troops". Sometimes I wonder if the people yelling about it have any idea what it really means. I may not be the best person to editorialize about supporting troops, but I feel that support involves more than yellow ribbons around oak trees.

I hope you'll watch the following videos. They've created a picture in my mind of how our troops are treated, by whom, and why.

I hope that if you're an American citizen you'll enter your zip code in the form at the bottom of this story to contact your representatives and tell them how you feel about this subject.

"The soldiers do feel forgotten... they do."

~Lara Logan of CBS

"If I were to watch the news that you're hearing in the United States I'd just blow my brains out 'cuz it would drive me nuts!" ~Lara Logan of CBS

Why are we There? To Fight Terrorism and Confiscate WMDs, Right?

"Once that oil starts flowing, and money coming - it's gonna be lots of money - it's the second largest reserve of oil in the world - it's no question about how much money's there."

"I think the profits that the American companies are making, I mean the major, the main companies, are so overwhelming..."

OK, So it's Expensive... but We're Taking Care of our Troops, Right?

"Contaminated water was provided to the troops."
~Senator Byron Dorgan

"The tents were completely moldy and everybody was getting sick." ~K.D., National Guard

"Troops complain about breathing problems, some coughing up a black substance... Iraqi Crud, as the troops call it."

"Every day, twice a day."

"KBR showed an utter disregard for the safety of the troops." ~Elizabeth Burke, Attorney

"Guess who blocks the investigations? Don Rumsfeld, hired by Dick Cheney, former CEO of Halliburton."

Surely They're Working to Improve their Treatment of Others, Right?

"Shortly after she was raped, Halliburton/KBR security locked her in a shipping cell for nearly 24 hours without food and water, guarded by two men with machine guns."

"When they protested, the guards fired above to silence them."

Well, At Least the Soldiers Have a Decent Job, Right?
